It certainly appeared that way as the Anfield great applauded all four sides of the ground before heading straight down the tunnel. England 62-24 Wales Red Roses run in 10 tries, Wales earn bonus point There is an alternate universe where Meg Jones played the Six Nations clash between England and Wales in a red shirt instead of a white one. The Red Roses captain was born in Cardiff and can speak fluent Welsh but she chose to play for England, being qualified through her mother. That decision is surely one of the most important to England’s current form with Jones an integral and irreplaceable cog in the Red Roses machine. Jones was named skipper before the Six Nations with Zoe Stratford pregnant and she has more than stepped to the plate. The 2025 World Rugby player of the year nominee has scored in two of the three opening matches of the tournament, bagging two against Wales at a sold-out Ashton Gate. Not only is she getting herself on the scoresheet, she is also proving to be the linchpin in most of the side’s attacking moves. In the third round, they put ten goals past Exeter City, becoming the first top-flight club to notch double figures in the competition since Bill Nicholson’s famous Tottenham Hotspur side scored 13 times against Crewe in 1960. They’ve since gone to Newcastle and found the net three times, thrashed Liverpool, the reigning champions of England, by four goals, and … well, they only managed two against fourth-tier Salford in the fourth round, but let’s not spoil the effect. They’re UP FOR THE CUP, and what’s more, this will be their eighth consecutive FA Cup semi-final in a period which covers 21 matches against lower-league teams, City winning them all to the cumulative scoreline of 84-11. Eight in a row! 84-11! Southampton could be forgiven for not turning up. But Southampton will turn up, and with good reason. Saints held City at St Mary’s towards the tail end of last season, having given Pep Guardiola’s men a good game at the Etihad earlier in the campaign. And then there was that Nathan Jones inspired League Cup victory early in 2023. So this is not necessarily a dream match-up for City, never mind a shoo-in, and that’s before one considers the emphasis they’ll surely, understandably, be putting on their pursuit of the Premier League, with Rodri unlikely to be risked this afternoon … and that Pep is not immune to being unceremoniously cashiered from the grand old competition, just ask Wigan. With second-placed Ipswich drawing at West Brom, Boro have moved to within a point of the top-two positions with one game to play, although Ipswich still have a game in hand. Boro’s 5-1 victory was their joint-biggest win of the season and came courtesy of doubles from Morgan Whittaker and Tommy Conway plus a goal from David Strelec. She had a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a college résumé that included a student marketing job for Red Bull. But after months of applying, her only offer was to work in the power tools section at Home Depot. “It was quite a shock,” she told the Guardian. “I searched for jobs every single day in that Home Depot bathroom.” Terrell’s generation is entering the workforce in a particularly unlucky moment. Hiring in the United States has slumped to its lowest rate since 2020, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. While workers of all ages are feeling the pressure of an uncertain economy, it’s gen Z who is the most pessimistic about their job prospects: entry-level jobs are the most vulnerable to impacts from artificial intelligence, and some younger workers are seeing their careers stall before they have even started.
